Ingredients

  • 6 c confectioners' sugar
  • 2 c sugar
  • 3/4 c light corn syrup
  • 1/2 c water
  • 2 tsp anise orange extract
  • Red yellow, or orange liquid food coloring, optional

Instructions

  • Once you have your ingredients, use confectioners' sugar to fill a 15 x 10 x 1 inch pan and smooth it with a wooden spoon handle.
  • Combine the sugar, water, and corn syrup in a large saucepan, bring the mixture to a boil and stir it occasionally.
  • Cover the pan and allow the mixture to cook for 3 minutes, or until sugar crystals are dissolved.
  • Uncover, cook on medium-high heat, do not stir.
  • When the candy thermometer reads 300 degrees Fahrenheit, remove the pan from the stove and stir in food coloring and extract flavoring.
  • Pour the mixture into a glass measuring container. You must work quickly and pour it off into the prepared pan.
  • Cover the candy mixture with confectioners' sugar and let it cool enough not to burn your fingers.
  • Then, cut the cooled candy into pieces with a knife or scissors. Be sure to store this candy in a covered jar.
