  • Rice wine vinegar– 2 tbsp adds a little acidity to the sauce.
  • Sriracha– 1 tbsp of sriracha is optional but adds great flavor and a little heat. Alternatively, you could use chili paste.
  • Sesame oil– 1 teaspoon gives the sauce a light, nutty flavor.
  • Olive oil– 1 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil is used to cook the onions.

  1. Whisk together the hoisin sauce, soy sauce, rice wine vinegar, Sriracha, and sesame oil in a small bowl until completely combined. Set the sauce aside.
  2. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add olive oil and cook the onions until soft (about 5 minutes). Stir in the garlic and ginger and cook until fragrant (about one more minute). Add the ground chicken and cook using a wooden spoon to break up the meat. Cook until cooked through and no pink is left.
  3. Pour the prepared sauce over the chicken and cook for 1-2 minutes to reduce. Remove from the heat then stir in the drained water chestnuts and green onions. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
