20 Best Prawn Recipes

It’s Sunday morning. You’re at the grocery store strolling down the seafood aisle, wondering what you should make for dinner. Then it hits you: prawn! While prawns are similar to shrimp regarding texture, these decapod crustaceans are a bit meatier and robust. This means you have a lot more variety of ingredients to pair it with than you do shrimp.

20 Best Prawn Recipes

When it comes to seafood, prawns don’t always get the love and attention they deserve. However, there are countless tasty and easy meals you can make.

From spaghetti to curry and even salad, you can add a little prawn to any dish.

If you’re looking for prawn recipes to cook this week, you’re in luck because we’ve gone under the sea and collected our top 21 favorite prawn recipes that you and the rest of your troupe will love.

1. Asian Chilli Garlic Prawns

If you’re looking to add a little Asian flair to your prawns, then we recommend trying out this unique and flavorful recipe.

Brown sugar is the secret ingredient in this tasty recipe because it adds a little bit of sweetness that balances out the salty flavor of the soy sauce.

If you don’t have brown sugar, you can swap it out for traditional white sugar instead.

This recipe also calls for some sriracha, but you could swap it out for regular hot sauce, too. This is one recipe everyone who eats it will love.

2. Prawn Saganaki

Prawn saganaki is a traditional Greek meal. Saganaki commonly refers to any dish that’s prepared in a small frying pan.

The secret ingredient in this meal is dry white wine because it still provides those fruity flavors without tasting sugary sweet.

If you don’t have dry white wine, you can use water instead. However, I recommend white wine vinegar because it has a similar flavor.

You won’t have to travel to Santorini to indulge in the great, robust flavors of prawn saganaki.

3. Traditional Goan Prawn Curry

If you’re a fan of Indian food, we have the perfect recipe for you. Goan prawn curry is as robust and flavorful as it is easy to make.

The secret ingredient is a cup of fresh, flaked coconut, used as part of the masala sauce.

Coconuts are often used as a base in many traditional Indian dishes, so it ranks as our top-secret ingredient.

If you don’t have flaked coconut, you can swap it out for coconut milk, sour cream, or plain greek yogurt.

4. Tomato & Spinach Bucatini with Prawns

This is a popular recipe for prawns, and you’ll understand why with the first bite you take.

Because this recipe features a lot of tomatoes, including chopped tomatoes and puree, it can be a little acidic.

However, the secret ingredient – honey – helps balance out this acid to make something unbelievably delicious.

Since honey is a sweet element, you can swap it out for a little bit of sugar or even some sweet wines such as white zinfandel.

Make this one time, and I promise it’ll become your go-to meal from here on out.

5. Quick and Easy Prawn Curry

Sometimes you’re in the mood for curry but don’t have a lot of time to spare.

Fortunately, you’re in luck because this recipe won’t eat up too much time (pun intended).

The secret ingredient in this curry may surprise you; its ground almonds! The almonds help thicken the curry sauce, so you won’t have to worry about it being too watery.

If you don’t have or like almonds or someone in your family is allergic, you can swap them out for some cornstarch.

This will help thicken the sauce and keep it allergy-friendly for everyone who eats it.

7. Prawn Cocktail

You’ve heard of shrimp cocktails. Well, let me introduce you to a prawn cocktail.

There’s not a huge distinction between a shrimp and prawn cocktail, but you can set yours apart by sprinkling in a little bit of paprika.

Paprika is our secret ingredient and adds a little bit of smoky flavor to the prawns. If you don’t have paprika, don’t fret.

Swap it out for some chili powder or cayenne pepper. If you want to get wild, add a little tabasco sauce, as well.

8. Prawn Saganaki

If you’re a fan of Greek cuisine, why not add some prawn saganaki to this week’s dinner lineup?

The secret ingredient in this flavorful recipe is lemon because it adds a bolt of flavor to this otherwise acidic dish.

You can swap it out for lime juice if you don’t have lemon since it has similar flavor characteristics. Or, you could use lemon extract or even white wine vinegar.

Crumble some feta cheese on top, and you’ve got an instant classic on your hands.

9. Prawn Pasta

Are you looking for more ways to spice up your traditional pasta dishes? If so, we recommend adding in some tasty and garlicky prawns.

The secret ingredient in this dish is vegetable stock, which helps elevate the flavors. Plus, it can help enhance your visitation and serves as a helpful serving of Vitamin A, so it’s a win-win all around.

This recipe calls for fettuccine noodles, but you can swap this out for any pasta you prefer.

We recommend traditional spaghetti, angel hair, and farfalle as great alternatives.

This is one of the best prawn recipes, and it’s one that your family will ask for time and again.

The best thing about stir fry is that it can be cooked in the same pan for ease.

This one-pan method helps all the flavors combine to create something that tastes truly delicious.

The secret ingredient in this dish is soy sauce, which gives it those traditional Asian flavors.

15. Spinach, Tomato, Prawn, and Salmon Curry

If you’re a seafood lover, why not combine prawns and salmon for your next dish?

These two ingredients taste great together, especially when mixed with the acidity of tomato sauce.

The secret ingredient in this curry is sunflower oil. Unlike many other oils, sunflower oil has a little bit of a nutty flavor, which works well in this tasty curry.

If you don’t have sunflower oil, you can swap it out for peanut oil, walnut oil, or vegetable oil.

16. Oven-Roasted Peri-Peri Prawns

Prawns roasted in an oven have a completely different flavor than those cooked through other methods.

The peri-peri sauce is severely underrated and is usually a nice mix of sweet and sour flavors, making it perfect to use on most seafood and other types of meats. The peri-peri sauce is made with lemons, red peppers, and smoked paprika.

If you don’t have red peppers, you can swap them out for another pepper, such as chili peppers.
