How to make Coca-Cola Cake

This chocolate Coca-Cola cake is an easier recipe than you might imagine. It’s as easy as 1,2,3. Mix all the ingredients,  pour into a baking pan, and bake! 

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 F (180 C). Grease and flour a 13×9-inch baking pan.
  2. In a saucepan mix the coca-cola, vegetable oil, butter, and cocoa powder. Heat the mixture until the butter melts. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.  In a large bowl combine the sugar, flour, and salt. 
  3. Pour the cola mixture over the flour mixture and beat until combined. Then beat in the eggs, buttermilk, baking soda, and vanilla extract.
  4. Pour the batter into the greased pan and bake for 20 to 25 minutes.

To make the frosting: In a saucepan heat together the butter, cocoa powder, and milk. until the butter melts. Remove from heat and mix in the confectioner’s sugar and vanilla extract. Spread this mixture over the cake while it is still warm.

Variations on Coca-Cola Cake:

There are many variations of the chocolate coca-cola cake you can make. I used regular coke, but if you wish, you can also use the sugar-free or cherry option. If you are a chocolate lover, you can also add chocolate chips or add chopped nuts

Freeze Coca-Cola Cake

To store this cake in the freezer, I recommend you First, freeze the whole cake until almost frozen, then cut it into pieces. Wrap each piece in foil, and store it in a sealed container or bag.

You can store it in the freezer for up to 3 months. Refrigerate the day before serving. Let it come to room temperature for 1-2 hours before serving.

  • 1 cup coca-cola (normal)
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 1 stick butter (½ cup)
  • 3 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups flour
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Frosting

  • 1 stick butter (½ cup)
  • 2 ⅓ tbsp cocoa powder
  • 6 tbsp cream or milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 ¾ cup confectioners sugar
