Dorito Taco Salad with Catalina Dressing

You can serve this delicious Dorito taco salad already tossed, or as a make-it-yourself bowl. My mom used to make this all the time for our family and we loved it. Now my kids (and their friends) are fans of this taco salad recipe with Doritos as well! It is also the perfect taco salad for potluck parties.

Ingredients you’ll need:

  • Ground beef: use lean ground beef. I like at least 90% lean
  • Taco seasoning: one packet to flavor the ground beef
  • Iceberg lettuce: It holds its shape better than the more leafy lettuce when mixed with the rest of the ingredients
  • Bell pepper: I like to use red and green to add color to the salad
  • Black olives: sliced so they are well distributed within the salad
  • Beans: you can use black beans, pinto beans, kidney beans, or you’re favorite. Just make sure to rinse and drain them well
  • Tomatoes: diced tomatoes, seeds removed
  • Red onion: ¼ cup chopped or thinly sliced
  • Cheddar cheese: freshly shredded is the best
  • Doritos: we like the nacho cheese-flavored ones, slightly crushed
  • Catalina dressing: you can toss it with the salad, or serve it on the side.

How do you make Dorito Taco Salad?

In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown the beef until there is no pink left. Add the taco seasoning packet along with ½ cup water and cook for about 5 minutes or until almost all the liquid has evaporated.

Toss all ingredients together in a big bowl. Drizzle the dressing on top, mix, and enjoy!

What dressing for Dorito Taco Salad?

This is really up to you. I like to use Catalina Salad dressing, but Italian is also good. Try it with the one you enjoy the most, and maybe you can try it with a different salad dressing every time!

Make Ahead:

If you want to make this recipe ahead of time, cook the beef, chop all the veggies and store everything in separate airtight containers and in the fridge for up to 2 days. When you’re ready to serve, just place everything together in a bowl, add the crushed Doritos and salad dressing, toss, and serve!

Made this for a funeral dinner and it was a big hit! It has been requested that I make this for a church dinner so that will be happening soon. I will serve roughly 50-60 people.
